On Tuesday, 13th January, 2009, officials of the Ministry of Trade announced a cut in the price of gasoline by 8.8 percent (8.8%) or eighty (80) cents to eight dollars and twenty nine cents ($8.29) per gallon due to a drop in global oil prices.

The price in diesel has also fallen by twelve point nine percent (12.9%) or one dollar and thirty cents ($1.30) to eight dollars and seventy-four ($8.74) per gallon while the price of kerosene has been cut by fifteen point seven percent (15.7%) to seven dollars and forty-four ($7.44) per gallon.
This is the seventh consecutive occasion that prices for petroleum products in Dominica have been reduced since prices increased in mid June 2008. The current prices are the lowest in Dominica since January 2004.
International oil prices have witnessed significant falls since July 2008 and traded around us$40.00 per barrel on December 6, 2008.
On December 24, 2008 oil prices traded at US$33.00 per barrel. In a press release from the Ministry of Trade on Tuesday, Government assured the public that if the price of oil on the international market continues to fall these reductions will be reflected in the prices of petroleum products locally. |
